2nd Ministerial Meeting on ‘Growth through Innovation’

2nd Meeting Focuses on Regulatory Reform

Deputy Prime Minister Kim Dong Yeon presided over the 2nd Ministerial Meeting on ‘Growth through Innovation’, held on July 4, and discussed ways to successfully carry out the reforming of regulations suspended due to conflicts of interest.  The meeting also discussed plans to set up an ICT cluster on state-owned idle properties in southern Seoul, develop industrial complexes to be young employee-friendly and build a private sector-led job training system to promote work-study.

The following is a summary of Deputy Prime Minister Kim’s keynote address:

Regulatory Reform is a Must

There are regulations whose reforms have repeatedly been called for in the market, yet the reforms have been suspended for a long time, from 5 to 10 years, due to conflicts of interest.  Reforming those regulations is a must in the economy as it is what the market needs and what will guide our ‘growth through innovation’.  I call for government-wide efforts to find ways to settle conflicts of interest and improve regulations as quickly as possible, and I firmly believe this will help achieve ‘growth through innovation’ and will lead to increased jobs in the future.
